Building our future
Creating a modern and progressive campus
Over 10 years, we're investing £250 million into our campus in Portsmouth’s city centre.
Our aim is to create world class facilities to enable innovation in learning, teaching and research. These facilities will enhance the student experience and strengthen connections with the rest of the city.
The work has already begun. We've completed our award-winning Ravelin Sports Centre and we're finalising the designs on our new Student Hub and Technology Building.
What is the Estate Masterplan?
Our Estate Masterplan is an ambitious development project. It includes constructing new landmark buildings, refurbishing existing facilities and creating new public spaces.
The plan will support our Strategy to deliver globally recognised research, become climate positive and create a vibrant experience for our communities.
Have your say
We welcome your views on our Estate Masterplan. We will continue to provide opportunities for input as each project becomes established.

Our priority projects
We’re prioritising several key projects within our Estate Masterplan. We're working on these in a phased approach to enhance our campus and support the growth of our university.
These projects have been carefully selected to ensure that we continue to provide fantastic learning, working, research and living environments for our students, staff and the wider community.

Wiltshire Building
Location: Existing Wiltshire Building on Hampshire Terrace
Expected completion date: December 2025
Restoring heritage to this former military drill shed, the Wiltshire Building refurbishment will accommodate the relocation of our front of house Student Services, supporting the future development of the Student Hub.

Multi-storey car park
Location: Existing Eldon Building car park located off Bedford Street
Expected completion date: Spring 2026
A new multi-storey car park will allow us to consolidate our existing car parks into a safer and more secure mobility hub, and will include more EV charging stations. There are plans for public use of the car park outside of University hours, such as during evenings and weekends.

Student Hub
Location: Existing Students' Union on Cambridge Road
Expected completion date: Summer 2026
Our new Student Hub will provide a vibrant, supportive and social student experience. It will link the Library and Students' Union building, providing spaces for social learning and wellbeing, including students' services, a lounge, a coffee bar/ kitchen, a shop and an event space.

Teaching Laboratory Building
Location: Former Nuffield Building site on St Michael's Road
Expected completion date: Summer 2027
Our aim is to create exemplary modern teaching lab facilities that allow for more efficient and collaborative lab spaces, bringing together the forensic services and the Extreme Environment Lab, alongside general teaching and student learning space.

Technology Building
Location: Existing University House on Winston Churchill Avenue
Expected completion date: Spring 2028
This new building will allow for the co-location of the Technology Faculty and the consolidation of existing facilities within a single building, offering a high-quality multifunctional environment and student experience.

Civil Engineering Lab (CELAB)
Location: Existing site of the Wiltshire Building car park
Expected completion date: Spring 2028
The Civil Engineering Lab (CELAB) will be a purpose-built facility designed to complement the nearby Technology Building. This single-story structure will house specialised laboratories and support facilities crucial for civil engineering education and research.
Other projects we're working on

Mercantile House
Renovations at Mercantile House include creating additional meeting room space and room for additional services such as HR, Finance and UEB.

Neptune Building
We're turning the former LSI Building into a temporary home for the Students’ Union until the new Student Hub is constructed.

Portsmouth Elite Athlete Centre (PEAC)
Based in the Spinnaker Building, PEAC will house a 300 square metre strength and conditioning gym outfitted by Eleiko to support teaching, training and research.

Cycle hub
We've submitted a pre-application for a new cycle hub on the Nuffield car park to provide approximately 354 cycle spaces, 20 showers and changing facilities.

Photography studios
We've expanded into the former colour darkroom, upgraded our lighting and backdrops, and streamlined our black and white darkroom. Our editing suite now has 20 colour-calibrated computers, digital printing and pro-level film scanning.
